Carpet Plants?

Hi folks, I had actually been a member here for about 2 years and went to log in today and it wouldn't let me

Anyway!

I'm looking for a low-medium light, fast-ish growing plant that will carpet a tank, anyone got any suggestions?

Hi A member for 2 years and only 1 post !? LOL

Well, under low-lighting and with no CO2 injections, plants won't grow as fast as to create a nice carpet quickly. This doesn't mean they'll do poorly, because they can grow slowly but still be healthy-looking. If you're using CO2, then yes, they'll grow fast. If not, they won't really. I mean, they'll grow of course, but not as fast as with CO2 injections.

I have a low light tank (1.73 wpg) and I tried Dwarf Sagittaria because I've been told it's a great carpeting low-light plant. But, it didn't do well in my tank at all. I had to throw it away. I've also tried Cryptocoryne Willisii var. Lucens, and while it grows slowly - because it's a low-light tank - it looks beautiful and grows very dense. It stays short, about 3", and it's very green and healthy-looking. With CO2, it would probably form a nice carpet quickly.

Another plant, but it's a medium-light plant, is the Pygmy Chain Sword. I never had it but I know it can be used as a carpeting plant. Sometimes people just let thir mosses spread over their gravel to look like a "carpet" too. Mosses are low-light and very easy to grow.
