Use or ditch pond moss?

Was given plants by someone (can't remember name some kind of moss) to put in my aquariums; it came from the perosns pond though, should I just ditch them or would it be safe to put in the moss in the aquarium that came from a pond?

Re: Use or ditch pond moss?

I use plants from my ponds inside all the time.

Here's what I do.
There is a spice called alum.

Use a tablesppon per half gallon of water.
Soak the plant in it for about a minute.

This will remove almost all invertebrates and insects from the plant.

Can alum be found at a grocery store I'm assuming?

Re: Use or ditch pond moss?

Alum is used in pickling so most grocery stores carry it. It's also used to make homemade playdough...

Should I use it whenever I buy a new plant to remove the snails?

Re: Use or ditch pond moss?

As long as you rinse the plants real well after they have been in the alum, it would be a good idea .
Alum not only will kill snails, it will also kill snail eggs.
