Best way to attach Java Moss and Java Fern

Okay, so I'm tired of trying to tie java fern to driftwood. Is there any better way of doing this, or is thread or string the only way?

Also, how do you attach Java Moss to a piece of driftwood?

You can staple it, if you are very careful.

That will hold it down long enough for it to attach.

Re: Best way to attach Java Moss and Java Fern

I always use black cotton thread to attach my Anubias and Java Ferns to driftwood. They never get loose. After a while, Anubias start winding/twisting their roots around the driftwood and the black cotton thread is no longer needed. You can leave the thread there until it dissolves itself in water over time. As for Java Ferns, their roots are hard to see as they're the same color as my driftwood, but I don't think they're actually getting attached to the driftwood. I keep the black cotton thread there all the time.

If you tie your plants to driftwood well with the black cotton thread, they should not get loose. Of course, tying well does not mean tying tight. Be gentle. If you're tying them too tight, you may be destroying leaves/roots. Anubias have very sensitive roots.

Or you could use fishing line or even elastic bands.

Yup The reason I personally prefer black cotton thread is that you can't see it at all on driftwood. It's "invisible". I think fishing line shows a bit, doesn't it?

Not the really good high end stuff, it is litereally invisible to the naked eye in the tank.

Cotton thread here (I usually use thread that matches the colour of the wood i am putting it on, as you see it on the wood longer then you see it on the plant) , by the time it rots the plant has firmly attached. I have also used hairnets when doing fairly large areas.

Ninilie, go to Aquatics Warehouse off of Clairmont Mesa Blvd on Complex St. They have tons. I just bought some this week. What LFS do you usually go to? I just found this place a week ago and they rock!

I have only seen Java moss for sale at one fish store. I ordered my first batch, and the rest has been born off of that clump.
