AMAZING Takashi Amano Tanks !!!

Hello Everyone

Don't know how many of you are Takashi Amano fans. But if you're not, you'll become one after seeing these photos. I've scanned these tank pictures from Takashi Amano's book, "Nature Aquarium World" (part I). These tanks are all designed by him. Takashi Amano is number one planted tank aquarist in the world, in my opinion. There are 3 parts of this book (3 separate books), and supposedly, the other 2 have even more beautiful images than book # 1. I definitely have to get the other 2! So, here are some images from book # 1 for all of you interested. I think Takashi Amano tanks should serve as a superb example for planted tanks.

ALL of his tanks are WONDERFUL. No doubt about that! This one: http://www.flickr.com/photos/4638604...7594507931201/ looks just like another window in that room! Doesn't it? I wonder how big that tank is? Gotta be more than 300 gallons. I am guessing around 500 gallons?

Re: AMAZING Takashi Amano Tanks !!!

I've seen a very simplistic tank that I think he did that was just gorgeous. Crystal-clear water with a bed of some sort of bottom-covering grass. Looked like a meadow.

Re: AMAZING Takashi Amano Tanks !!!

Yes, there is a grass-like aquatic plant called Dwarf Hairgrass. (There is also a Giant Hairgrass. Dwarf hairgrass looks BEAUTIFUL as a foreground plant and it makes the tank floor look like some meadow. Anyway, any plant in Takashi Amano's setups will look amazing, lol. He's got the magic touch!

Is this the plant you saw? http://www.plantgeek.net/images/plan...cicularis2.jpg

Re: AMAZING Takashi Amano Tanks !!!

Over to the side of the tank I linked (did you find him standing behind the tank?) it shows the set-up and there are 5 or six men standing in it so it has to be huge. It looks like its in a meditation type room which would be cool.
Dwarf hairgrass is cool looking but you have to have the patience of a saint to plant it

Beautiful tanks Is this website Russian? Looks like some Russian writing to me. Do they have it in English?

Re: AMAZING Takashi Amano Tanks !!!

Yeah, I really like the open feel of the second one, some of the others looked a bit cluttered to me. But then again, I'm more of a fish-centered person, rather than plant-centered. It seems to me that he cares more about the fish accenting the plants, rather than the plants being there for the fish. Which is cool, but not the way I would approach a tank of any of those sizes.

But even the ones that aren't my favorite, I would kill to have, because they're stunning.

I agree with you, Alison, you kinda have to strain to admire the fish in the photos... I too, think its a little too cluttered. I like a natural tank, but I like to have a little more open space in there... nice healthy plants tho!

Did you know there is an aquatic Gardeners association? http://www.aquatic-gardeners.org/
There is a fee for membership but if you move around the site some there are things to see and inspire. There is even a group in the uk. http://www.aquatic-gardeners.org/tag.html Graeme Edwards is well know for his Loaches and his photography.

Does he use a fertilizer as a substrate?

Stunning work. Does anyone know what kind of substrate setup he uses? I've seen a lot of talk about nutrient layers that last 2 or 3 years, is this something he uses? Also, does anyone have experience with CO2 systems...what would you recommend? It seems like the expensive ones save you time, the cheap ones save you money but not the time...
