Re: brown water

HI there,
if you do some partial water changes and use some activated charcoal in your filter it should clear out. Or there are still tannins left in the wood that will continue to leach out til its clear of it.

Re: brown water

yep - water changes will do the trick.

i personally don't like to use activated charcoal in my tanks, and when i tried it, it didn't do much for me. if you decide to use it, hopefully it'll work for you

Re: brown water

The brown water won't hurt your fish. It might drop your pH a little, but not a lot. It will slowly clear up as your filter pulls some of the brown bits out, and as water changes put fresh water in.
(I'm in the exact same boat right now. I put some swahala wood in a tank after soaking it for two days, and have water the color of a dark green tea.)

Re: brown water

Bring on the brown, I don't boil mine at all, I give em a rinse with declorinated water and plunk em in and grow plants all over them. I love tannin soaked water, Cardinal and neon tetras look so much better in a non crystal clear water anyway, much more like there natural home. I even peat filter to try to add more tea colour but in the end it still clears up a fair chunk, but that little bit of not quite crystal clear just looks better in my personal taste.

There is alot of wood burried in plants in my tank that have unfortunatly stopped leaching colour, now its pretty much only a slight tinge from peat.
