Hi Everyone,
I am trying to decide if I want to add some live plants to my tank that has been up & running for 6-8weeks now... I am having some brown algae & was told live plants could help.

I wanted live plants when I first started the tank, but had read about the problems with snails, the other day I was told by the manage @ the LFS, that the plants they carry do not have snails, but if i was concerned, I could dip them in alum, that it would kill any would be snails.

First off find it hard to believe he could know for sure there are no snails on the plants... everything I have read, says they are impossible to see until they grow.
So that is why I was asking about the Alum, to see if this is true or not & will it hurt my existing fish, of add any problems to my water, etc.

Thanks for any info to help me make a decision.
