Cycle a tank with dead fish?

I have a 5 gallon tank that I want to put 2 african dwarf frogs in, but a few weeks ago my brother came back from a carnival with a minnow. The 5 gallon was cycling, so i put the fish in and did 50% water changes every day. The poor fish only lasted about three days, then died.

I thought my brother had removed the fish, and he thought i had, so the fish is still in the tank.

My question is: I know you can cycle with a piece of raw shrimp, but you can you cycle with a dead fish? It's really gross, but if the tank is cycled, woul it be okay to do a water change and put the frogs in?

I would think that would be a personal choice....it is gross as you said, but it will do the same thing(not sure why a dead fish is gross but a raw shrimp isnt..hard to explain lol)....but, see if you can get his body and put it into some kind of net or something...he will decay and pieces of him will be all over the subtrate ...do you have any readings as of yet on the tank?

I might be paranoid, but I would wonder why the minnow died.
If it was sick you could also be infecting any new inhabitants added to the tank after it cycles.
My fears my be unfounded, be interesting to see what others have to say about it.

I would think he died from an uncycled tank ...but I never thought about him being sick and what that could cause..good point lucy!
