| SuperBac! I will have to be setting up a new fish exhibit at the museum very soon, and as I went to get supplies, I asked around for Tetra Safe Start so that I don't have to be dealing with the nitrogen cycle. The guy at the store (a VERY specialized store with freshwater stingrays and everything) who seemed very knowledgeable, handed over another product: http://www.naturbac.com/nbhome.html
He said that this product was ever better than Tetra Safe Start. I was skeptical of course, but then I read something that caught my eye in the bottle:
"contains LIVE nitrosomas and nitrobacter".
Check out the link, if you click in the "overview" they sound very convincing. I will be testing this product in the next couple weeks, and I will let you guys know the results. |

| I will; this is going to be a tank that I will make all on my own. It is going to be a backwater amazon biotope with tetras for a new exhibit that is going to open. Can't wait!! |

| well just from what ive read and seen, ammonia with TSS seems to be too strong and ive seen failure because it overpowers the bacteria...fish, although produce ammonia, dont do it as fast and as strong as pure ammonia does....so make sure you use very very little ...cant wait to see the results tho! I might even get a bottle to try it with fish to see if its something that is as good as TSS ..it would be nice to have more than just one thing for an instant cycle!! (other than established media ) |

| Although... I am guessing my boss will have an input and depending on the time limit we might have to add fish right away. I guess she will be letting me choose the type of tetra I want, as long as it comes from the Amazon. Any suggestions? |

| I would recommend any of the following:
cardinals, rummynoses, emperors, lemons, or black skirts Those are just some of my favorites, though any south american tetra should work. |

| Keri Tetras are cool. They are a lavender color and iridescent with a black strip from head to tail that disappears in the dark and comes back in the light. They are also called Purple Emperor Tetras. |

| Hello fishfolks!
Here Alessa from Chi-town with news about the superbac. I installed the tank about a week ago with the required fish for the exhibit (glowlight tetras). Didn't test for a couple days, the result a week later using the superbac is:
Ammonia - 0 nitrite - 0 nitrate - 5 The tank was brand new when it was set up. No seeding, no nothing. It seems like the superbac is a genuine product that does work. |
