If your levels are good in your established tank, it shouldn't effect it.

I would think that it would help the cycle. The water carries minimal amounts of good bacteria, but it does carry it.

Like CWC said, adding water from a cycled tank definitely wont hurt your uncycled tank, and could possibly help by adding bacteria... you could also speed it up in the uncycled tank just by simply adding a little bit of your filter media out of the established tank to the filter in the uncycled tank =)

Cody, if you have any questions about cycling that you would rather ask in a PM you know Dino and I are always available.

Sometimes the way some people explain things make no sense without knowing the reasons for each step, or hearing them explained a different way, but I see that you said that you get the idea but are confused. Drop us a PM if you need answers to anything.

i understand the cycle but i was doing changes through out the cycle and putting in cycled water, i thought it would help but it slowed me down then i went back to my old method of a pinch a day and let it stay method, which works great for me, but i was was worried since i set back my cycle already, i have never had it take longer than 2 weeks , and im on 3 going on 4

You're doing a fishless cycle?
If you read that you're supposed to do water changes during a fishless cycle, that would be incorrect.

Good luck, I hope it goes fast for you.

yes i am, and thats my point, i cant find the article anymore someone posted it in a Post, it was like an article mike would of had to aprove, it said that you should change the water because you dont want to let your readings skyrocket, and i listend to it, just to try somthing new,, and well i was not very happy, it would make them go down, and then back up, it basicaly started my cycle over, even if i did it with cylced water. now does my question make more sense, im embarsied for this post, i should no better.

Don't be embarrased!
You know we've all done things we shouldn't have.

Trying new things is how people discover stuff, so as long as no one gets hurt when we try new things it is definately worth doing.

As was said, we've all done things incorrectly. Also as was said, nobody was really hurt by your experiment, so it was a good thing. We learn as much (or more) from failed experiments as we do from successful ones.

I don't know if you've done this, but Clinton made a really good suggestion. You can use some filter media from a cycled tank to speed the cycle along on an uncycled one. If your 20g is cycled, take half of the media from it and put it in the 55g filter. It may not fit perfectly into the media slot, but there's always a way to get the media to it in place.
