Bio-Spira and Seachem Prime

Hi, me again. I followed the advice of doing cycling with Bio-Spira. When I first bought the aquarium i used Seachem Prime for conditioning the water. I just bought Bio-Spira and i will add it as soon as i get it but i dont know if it will be ok with the prime I first used.

I would suggest a 50% water change (no vacuuming) and have your fish ready to add right after you add your Bio-Spira!

yes add the fish at the same time so you need to feed the bio. if you don't feed it you will end up with a bacteria bloom which will turn your water white and cloudy.

yes i would do a big water change and ad the biospira and the fish. you should try to use another water conditioner though because i've heard that biospira won't work with prime. you might want to wait a couple days and do 2 big water changes and use another kind of conditioner to get the prime out of your water. the reason you can't use prime with biospira is because prime turns the ammonia into non-toxic for the fish but the beneficial bacteria in the biospira needs it otherwise it will die.

good luck!!!

I'd use a different water conditioner, like NovAqua+ or Fish Protector, for a week or two after adding Bio-Spira just to be on the safe side.

Thanks , I also have a aquarium pharmaceuticals stress coat water conditioner that says only to remove chlorine and chloramines and to replace the slime coat. Will that one work? it does not say anything about ammonia.

also, the tank I am talking about, is brand new. it has never been used before and has been up for about a week (without fishes).

Any recomendations for hardy non-schooling fish for the bio-spira?

Don't use ammonia detoxifying agents with bio-spira.

I would not want any ammonia detoxifying agents in the water with Bio-Spira. I would not do any water changes for a while after adding it either. I'll refer you to Robert Huber, Senior Consumer Relations Specialist in the United Pet Group Aquatics Division (Bio-Spira):

Don't Use Prime with Bio-Spira!

I learned this "the hard way" after killing a Bio-Spira treatment with Prime and water changes.
