Bowing To Fishlore!

As some may remember ( or maybe not) I was a newbie to fishlore in March...I had my tanks for years, with some new ones added...I knew NOTHING of the cycleing and have lost too many fish to even begin to name...also have kept a set of oscars and silver dollars for 5 years that havent passed (how I have not a clue cause I never cycled, put them in a brand new 75 gallon tank without anything but newness) and now, as of this minute, my readings on my tanks are as follows:

20 gallon
0 amonia
0 nitrite
10 nitrate

30 gallon
same as above !!

75 gallon (new tank and biggest challenge)
0 AMONIA (whahoooooooooo finally!!) TY TY TY FISHLORE
0 NITRITE(thankkkkkkkk you fishlore)
BUT I have a 40 nitrate..so im close but not close enough!

will water changes help this?? Im so close I can feel it but just need a bit more help with those nitrates...

THANK YOU again to all those that have taken time out of their lives to help us newbies and teach us the things every fish owner should know!

Hi Shawnie! Congratulations on your cycled tanks!
Now.. with the high nitrate reading, all you need to do is another water change to get those numbers down to between 10-20. Hopefully one or two wc's at 25% each time should do it.
Im so happy for you... after all that hard work you put into it.. now you can relax soon ... and enjoy your tanks!

Shawnie, I also say congrat on the cycled thank. I know how frustrating it is waiting, waiting, waiting.....

Do those water changes as Kate suggested, all will be well, and you can proceed.....keep us posted.

You obviouly have done such a good job with those Oscars..they are neat!

Reading 0 Ammonia and 0 Nitrite but 40 Nitrate means that your tank is cycled and that you are a bit overdue for a water change. The only realistic way to remove Nitrates is through water changes.

I would probably do a 25% change every day for the next 3-5 days to get the levels below 20, and then do changes as necessary to keep them below 20.

Yeah!

Water changes.......just like they say...and gravel vacuuming....1/2 tank at a time.....

I just did a 50% change on my shrimp tank today, did a test before and it was 10 nitrate....then after a few hours I was playing around stirring the gravel to get gunk to come up...so I decided to do another 50%! I'll test the water tomorrow, but I TRY to keep that one between 5 & 10.....

These things are the fine tuning a person does to their own liking...

But I am happy you are here also....not many people get as excited about the little successes as you do....YOU ARE GOOD PEOPLE!
