Celebrate A Cycle

WHAHOOOOOOOOOOOO Ive only got one tank left to finish the cycle...!!!!

Both my 30 gallon, which was cycled because of just long term usage, not from anything I did CORRECTLY, and now my 20 gallon, because of daily water changes and bio-spira, are both done!!!!!

I was a newbie with 3 tanks and just added fish as all uneducated fish lovers do...between rescued fish and just "awwww i love the colors lets buy him" fish purchases, im almost there....ive lost alot of fish because of my ignorance, and I feel awful, but im working on changing that...

I just have my 75 gallon left! although ive added bio-spira to that and doing daily water changes after a week of using the bs, its still has a reading of amonia...very small compared to when I started but there none the less..im assuming, because the tank was so big, its taking a bit longer for the bacteria to cultivate...

Thank you all the fishlore helpers for allowing me to learn to be an educated fish owner...patience is something ive learned here and hopefully I continue to learn more!!

Yeah. It feels good when something actually goes right. I think I've already suggested sharing filter media from one of the cycled tanks. It will go a long ways toward populating the filter.

Good luck with your last tank.

even tho ive put bio-spira you think I should still share some media?

Only issue with that would be that my two cycled tanks, have those disposable whisper filters that just slide into the filter...kinda like screen ...and my 75 gallon is the canister filter with separate peices...

TY lucy!

Ah, the canister thing would be difficult.

Could you share some filter media by weighing it down with some gravel or hang it in the tank?

No need to. Just hang the entire frame near the output from the canister. It won't be pretty, but it will work. You should be able to get another frame thingy pretty cheap (most pet stores will carry a kit that has carbon, bag, and frame all together)

I know how you feel! I only had a 65 and a 10 gallon but man the 0 ammonia readings... priceless! I keep getting them every test now but I still have that fear that one is going to come out bright red or green again ! But please excuse me now, I need to go knock on some wood. Good luck with the last tank!

yep, it is a GOOD feeling when you get finally zero ppm for ammonia. I thought my tank would never completely cycle (10 days for the ammonia and 23 days for the nitrites after a second batch of bio-spira). The fish were toughing it out in high ammonia for a while there.
