My nitrogen cycle has been compromised

My established (1 year) tank has been compromised probably from over-feeding (tried new tropical tabs - didn't work out so good). So far one fish dead. After water change, my ph is 6.6, nitrite .2, amonia is .8+. I need to know the fastest way to adjust levels so remaining fish will be okay.

It is also possible my bio-wheel got rinsed with tap water. arrrgh! ! !

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Do a 50% water change to get that ammonia level down then do smaller ones each day until it's under control. when you find the Biospira you can add it.
Good luck.

Hi SSilva
water changes are the best way to to bring the levels down.
bugger about the filter washed in tap water..
If the readings for nitrates is still going up then things may not be as bad as they seam, as this indicates that some bacteria is still alive..
