I have never cycled a new tank with filter media and am trying it today.I have some spirulina in an old stocking in the tank now,and am wondering if I should transfer the filter media now,or wait a day or 2 until there will be a higher amount of ammonia in the water.

Hi fishbum,
Are you going to add some live bacteria to the tank? you can get the bottled stuff or see if you can get some filter media from a cycled tank/filter.
I would wait till there was some ammonia in the tank, that way the bacteria you are adding have a food source and not die off
