Anyone using Aquaripure to "close the nitrogen cycle loop?"

Anyone have experience with this product:
http://www.aquaripure.com/
Ideally, we want nitrogen gas (N2) as the final product, rather than nitrate, right? Does this filter work?

They also have a unit for tanks under 20 gallons that's not on their website yet. It goes for $129 and it doesn't use a feeding tube at all.

Thanks,

-Cal

It's kind of a waste because you still have to change water every month or so to keep solutes in check. If you just top off indefinitely, the water will get harder and harder and any impurities will concentrate.

I'd be all for it if they weren't so ridiculously expensive.

Looks pretty cool to me...

I think a well stocked and aged tank could really benefit from one of those.

I do a 25% water change two or three times per week because I'm paranoid about my chocolate gouramis and it keeps the nitrate below about 5%. George Farmer, of Practical Fishkeeping, is doing daily water changes of over 20% with his CGs! I'd be very happy to get my changes down to once or twice per month.

I'm working on a continuous water changer that would drip pre-treated (but not pre-heated) water into the tank and remove old water. It's certainly a cheaper solution, but not so easy to concoct in reliable design.

I'm picturing a modified toilet hanging off the back...lol.

haha--but I've heard chocolate gouramis don't like strong currents!

I'm getting close to buying the $129 Aquaripure mini-denitrator. John, at Aquaripure, said feeding the filter nutrient makes the filter more efficient but it's not really even needed in the "small" model.
