small cycle?

yesterday, i removed a little of the substrate from my 20 gallon tank, about two cups, to use in a 2 gallon i got for a betta. now today, the 20 gal seems to be going through a mini cycle with a small ammonia spike- .25ppm. do you think removing some of the substrate, and by doing that some of the bacteria, would be enough to cause this? the tank has only been cycled for around a month, think it was too soon?

Hi!

2 cups of gravel shouldn't have removed enough to put the tank into a mini-cycle. What are you doing to prevent the Mini-cycle?

thats odd. do you have filter floss or anything in the filter for the bacteria to live in? have any of the filters or anything come in contact with water that has cholorine in it?

bump up the water changes daily to get ur ammonia down, although hte ammonia deto is probably helping. ive heard after 5 days it will turn back into ammonia, so do a water change before then, id say 15% a day or like 25% every other day
