filter media

should you cycle your tank with the filter media in or out?

I leave the filter media in during cycling.

Definately in. The filter media is one of the primary places your beneficial bacteria grow during your cycle.

i have a marineland 150 filter with bio-wheel i still you put the filter media in.

you should put it in, even if you have a bio-wheel. it allows for more area for the good bacteria to grow

k cool i just read somewhere that when you cycle a tank you are suppose to leave the media filter out oh well i will put it in and let er cycle

There's a lot of misinformation out there, unfortunately. And before we started using FishLore, we followed quite a few of those. Now, when i come across a new idea, i like to run it by the FishLore community and see what the experienced fish owners say. Another thing that can help speed up your cycle is to make the water as warm as you can and be sure to feed it every 12 hours through the whole process. Best of luck with it.

my tank water is at 86 degrees so hopefully it will help the process along
