OK, I was at the pet store yesterday and one of the girls said it's a good idea to put a little aquarium salt in a freshwater tank to prevent fungus and such...
Have any of you heard of this before And can it screw up the cycle or bacteria?

As long as you get the aquarium salt(not marine salt) and use the right amount of salt as well. Just remember that some fish don't like a lot of salt like angels. What I did was put in about 1-2 tbsp in both my large tanks even though it says 1tbsp/5gallons. This way it has the salt and at a comfortable level for my fish.
