Ammonia levels and white fuzz

I started my cycle on a 10 gal on 3/9. I added enough ammonia to take it to about 6ppm. It has been 9 days and the ammonia level has not decreased at all. Should I start worrying yet or am I just being impatient? I have noticed that the driftwood in the tank is getting this white fuzz on it. Would that have anything to do with it? I did not boil it before adding it to the tank. I just soaked it for a few days and changed the water like the directions said before adding it to the tank. Here is a picture of what it looks like. I found this picture in the algae section. Les had posted it under the title white algae. Mine looks exactly the same.

I'm by NO means an expert...but I would say that it was still not clean enough before putting it into the tank...it almost looks like some kind of protein growth that you get with food that is rotting in tank...once again..please...one of the experts come in and correct me if I'm wrong.

It was brand new when I put it in the tank.

You are doing a fishless cycle? Have you added anything from an established tank to that would have bacteria on it? Gravel from an other tank, hung in a nylon is good, OR filter media...anything that can jump start the bacteria.

This is why we often recommend bio-spira.

The bacteria will develop on its own, it'll just take awhile.

Don't worry about the fuzz, if your filter is going and heat is up, the fuzz will go in time, once you put fish in, you will find they will eat it. Good Luck.

No, there is nothing from an established tank. Yes it is a fishless cycle.
