Hi Slider, sorry I wasn't here for a couple of days, Off saving the world!

There really isn't a problem with changing your filters, just get the new one, and run both until the new has a chance to be seeded with bacteria, 2 weeks should be more than enough. I think some here like Aqua Clear HOB filters. Bio Wheels are probably good also. If you want to go top of the line, order an Eheim, I have never used their HOB filter, but plan to as it looks like it would do a better job than the other two mentioned. Here is a link to a chart where you can get more info on Eheims.

The 2041 looks good for your tank, then if it were me I'd buy a sponge filter to place over the intake, which multiplies the area that bacteria can colonize. I do this with my fry tank, it has to be rinced once a week, but water draws up through it very well.

How is your tank? Sorry I didn't just look on your aquarium info. must have been tired.....It's 11.55 pm here now, and posting is sketchy at best....Take care.

Hi April, thanks for the info. The tank is still a frustration as it has been showing the same readings now for ages. Still using API master test kit I am getting ammonia- 0.25, nitrite 0 and nitrate - 10. Have had these reading since 12th Feb and I am doing water changes every 4 days.
Will def consider the new filter.
