Are you setting up a new tank? Or are you experiencing cycling problems?

Bio-spira needs to be refrigerated, and if you are planning to get a new filter.....and can get if VERY soon, wait to use the bio-spira till the new filter and media is in, that way it will seed the new filter. Don't wait more than a few days though, as the bio-spira has LIVE bacteria, and it needs to be used soon.

I have used it, and highly recommend as the only product to speed a cycle that I have found works like they advertise.

Be sure to use according to the directions. You add it to the tank, put some fish in (not all the fish you will eventually want, those have to be added slowly as with any tank just starting to cycle), do not use prime, or do water changes for a week or more.

Let us know how it goes.

If you've already got fish in the tank, you want to use the BioSpira as soon as possible. You can always transfer the old filter media to the new filter (even if it's not the right size, you can usually find a way. The important thing is to keep it wet from the moment it's pulled from the filter)

55 gallons is fine for one oscar. Don't do a water change until you need to, but wait to put your oscar in until your tank is ballanced.

Sorry Josh, I just checked your old post, and see more what is going on....Yes do a 25% water change, then drop in the bio-spira, don't do any more water changes till the cycle is over, like in a week or more....BUT then just remember going from your few danios to a JD or Oscar, can be a big jump in waste, depending on how big they are when you introduce them to the tank.

You will still need to think about a bigger tank within 6 months to a year.....The larger filtration you plan is good, but won't help the lack of space. Like most sites will tell you both of those fish have to be placed in large tank situations, and have specific needs....so do your research...Good Luck

Josh, a site you need to check out.

www.oscarfishlover.com That should give you a better idea, the section there on tank setup shows all about the size of tank you need.

55 really isn't "just fine" for one oscar. This is an expensive hobby, and sometimes it is a choice between our pocket book and what fish we really can afford to keep on our budget. So put lots of thought into your decision...

If you haven't already, you should also be working on who is going to be taking the danios, if you're going to "get rid of them" when you get the Oscar. You don't want to be trying to figure that out the day you get the Oscar.
Fish stores might be willing to take them, otherwise, you might be able to find someone on Craigslist.
