I'm currently cycling my 29 g. tank fishless. How long should it take to cycle this way? I'm doing it by decomposing fish food.

Always took me at least a month with the flake method. Pure ammonia is faster. Turn up the heater as high as it will go-high temp will make the tank cycle faster.

When you are cycled vacum your gravel really well and put in some snails. Cycling with fish food causes algae growth like you wouldnt belive! Dont ask !

It can take 3-6 weeks. If you can keep the water at the warmest the heater will go and have aeration running in the tank, the process can be helped along. We cycled a 30g tall in just under 3 weeks that way.
