Nitrite turning to Nitrate how long?

My 29gal has been cycling for almost 4 weeks now and has had Nitrites for about a week to a week and a half now. About how long does it take for the Nitrites to turn to Nitrates? I have a few fish in there and do 5 gal water change (about every 3 to 4 days) so that the Nitrites dont get to high.

Are you using Prime? What are the readings for nitrite?

If it were me I would be doing 25-50% water change EVERY day until the ammonia and nitrite are down to 0.

Did you use bio-spira? This would help, and your tank would develop the necessary bacteria within a week.....

I used "Cycle" also, I did not follow the directions on the bottle. I used it rather heavy. I think it recommends a setup dosage every 7 days for two weeks.....I used a setup dosage every other day for 2-2 1/2 weeks. Mine cycled just fine in about 3 to 4 weeks. Ive heard....lets not say "bad" things about "cycle" but it doesnt come highly recommended. They say "Cycle" puts the tank into a "mini cycle" if you will. I would do as Susitna-flower says, pick up some "Prime" for your water changes or just in case your levels get to high. Prime detoxifies Ammonia and Nitrites. It converts them into a form that is no longer toxic to fish but still allows them to be consumed by the bacteria and continue the cycling process. I use it with every water change. Its good stuff.

Since you are already using "Cycle" I would probably just continue. Rather than switching to a different product such as Bio-Spira. I would suggest treating it heavily like every other day for a week or so to see if you could help boost the cycling process. It wont hurt your fish.

Good luck, and keep us posted!
