Nitrogen Cycle?? HELP!!

I am new to having fish as pets so when I got my fish I knew NOTHING about the nitrogen cycle. Now I have a small tigar oscar and a pleco that I have had for two days, but I'm wondering how to start the nitrogen Cycle.

P.S: I have heard of Bio Spira, but I do not know if it will work in my circumstances.

WOW, my friend.... get ready for many water changes.

My first advice, is to read the Nitrogen Cycle article here on fishlore. That will tell you everything you need to know. In the meantime...

You have 2 very heavy waste producing fish in a new uncycled tank. The entire nitrogen cycle process begins with the conversion of solid wastes excreted by fish into ammonia.... and your ammonia levels are going to be extremely high in the next few days, excess ammonia is extremely toxic to your fish, hence... the need for water changes.

If you can get your hands on Bio-Spria, by all means get it ASAP and add it to the tank!

I wish you the best of luck with your tank and your fish.

http://www.fishlore.com/NitrogenCycle.htm The article tells you all you need to know. Do you have test kits for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate? You'll need to start testing immediately, and will probably be doing daily water changes with such high waste fish.
