I just got a new tank for X-mas and was wondering if it was alright to add water and conditioner and to start cycling it and then to add the gravel in a few days. Besides the fact it might be a pain to put the gravel in with the water in the tank what other problems are there if any that I could run into.

Merry Christmas, What size is your tank?

The two things that come to mind. #1 You will displace water with gravel when you put it in. (you might overflow the tank)

#2 Even with the most thorough washing of the gravel, to put it in the way you are talking about will stir up sediment, and cloud the water. Not a major problem, it would just be frustrating.

My question is why? Since to "cycle" you are trying to grow bacteria colonies on gravel, decorations, and in the filter. It seems like you need all of these to be in place for the bacteria, before you try to cycle. But in the end it is your call, and if you just can't wait........

twenty gallon. haha yeah I'm just impatient is all but yeah I will probably just end up waiting. Just wondering if it is possible is all.
