Can I put my fish(4blacksirts,4serpae,3orange flame Tetras and 1 cory)into my 55 gallon that I set up yesterday to cycle the tank and then put them back into the 29 gallon? Or is it better to cycle the tank without fish?I took some plants,gravel,decor and the biofilter from the 29 gallon and put it in the new one.Thanks for any advice you all can give me.

I read about feeding your tank to cycle it faster.How do I know how much food to put in and when do I start testing the water?I'm also thinking about getting Bio Spira,but I don't know if I can put that in with Angels,cause that's all I want in that tank.I tried Angels before but didn't know that the tank has to cycle first.So I had way to many Angels die and I don't wanna take any chances of it happening again.

I think that with all the stuff form 29 gal. tank a few fish would be OK in such a large tank. I would think all the fish from the 29 would be OK but the 29 will lose its cycle if no fish in it. seeing how you would like angels in the 55 I would buy some of the cheaper tankmates to slowly stock the 55 maybe 4 or 5 to start. Wait 3 or 4 weeks monitoring the water, then add a few angels

well you might lose some of your other fish if yo uput them in there..so dont risk it...i just set up my 55gallon yesterday to ..mine was bday present....what about . your i dont think i know what a bio sipria...i proubably do but i just seen it but never cared what it was...dont feed it like theres liek tons of fish in there but you want it to break down and just to get some of bacteria going..last night i was talking to some one on here..i cant remember her member name but she said she put some sorta of dead fish in it for a few days and let it rot...i think its in genral discusion under 55 gallon bday present...if you wanna check it out...other wise ask some of the moderators

I wouldn't move any fish into your new tank for now, if you haven't already. With the new tank bio-spira would be a great idea, and you can either put a chunk of raw salmon in the tank, to produce the ammonia, or you can feed it a pinch of fish food every 12 hours to start the ammonia. Either way, DO NOT put fish in if you start cycling without fish, till the ammonia and nitrite are down to 0 and you do a 50% water change.

Angles need very good water conditions, and will not live if you put them in a new tank that hasn't cycled all the way. I would let your tank go through the cycle, and wait another 6 months with just a very few fish in it like otoes, corys and maybe something else small, then when your tank has settled down to 0 ammonia and nitrite, and 5 nitrate and has stayed that way for several months, you could safely add your angles.

Good suggestions from susitna-flower for getting the ammonia going. The only thing I would differ with at all is waiting 6 months to add your angels. In my opinion, you do not need to wait that long. Once your cycle is complete, you should be good to begin adding fish. Add 2-3 at a time, wait 2-4 weeks to allow the additional bio-load from the new fish to be absorbed (confirm by testing regularly after adding the fish), then add 2-3 more. Repeat this process until your tank is fully stocked. I added angels to my 55 shortly after it finished cycling, and all are still with me and doing great.
