Cycling My new 150 gallon tank

Hi all just got back from store from buying my 150gallon tank for some oscars. i am currently used 1 hang over filtering system and 1 undergravel filter untill i can get a canister filter system. Will the undergravel slow down the filtering system?

Also should i put a pleco or CAE in to help its cycling?. Also what is the normal cycling time for 150gallion tank?

The undergravel should not affect the flow on the HOB...though I am not sure why you would run both. Total time to cycle averages 4-6 weeks, but it can vary quite a bit.

The fastest way to cycle that tank would be with BioSpira if you can get it or seeding it with filter sponges and/or substrata from established tanks. if you can get pure ammonia, i'd say to cycle fishless using drops of the ammonia to move the cycling along and test every couple days with an api kit.

Re: Cycling My new 150 gallon tank

first off...i'm jealous...
the best way to cycle is by using bio-spira
(info: http://www.marineland.com/products/m...l_biospira.asp )
some lfs carry this in their fridge...you might want to call and ask...the big chain stores do not carry it

i wouldn't put any fish in there...neither of those are fish that can live w/o algae, so you won't need those another 3+ months
