quick cycling question

i have an old 5 gallon tank that held my goldfish of 5 years (RIP squirt ). i decided to get a 20 gallon tank and hav been adding ammonia daily. should i put some of the water from the old 5 gallon tank into my 20 gallon to increase the rate in which it cycles? my 5 gallon was not tropical, and all i added to the water was chlorine remover. would this water be benificial?

Re: quick cycling question

the water won't do much, but if you put in some gravel or the sponge from the 5 gallon's filter, the majority of the good bacteria would be there if the cycle has been kept running in that 5g.

Re: quick cycling question

You can get some feeder(goldfish) to help cycle your tank. Some Danios can be used to help cycle too.

Re: quick cycling question

Cycling with fish is so out of style! The kinder way to do it is to buy an ammonia product or a product like BioSpira if you really can't wait that long. Patience is a virtue, though, and good fish will come to those who wait!

Re: quick cycling question

yea, i hate waiting.. but when we can, we put new fish in already cycled tanks.. sometimes though the betta bug gets us and next thing we know we own a betta that needs a new home.
