Marineland Visi-Therm Submersible Heater (200 watt)

I bought this heater about a month ago and is preforming just fine. It is very accurate and is cheap (200 watt only $20 at my LFS). The only downside is that the red knob at the top is a cheap plastic part that feels like it will break off when I adjust the heat. It has not broke yet, it just feels like it will.

I would recommend this to people looking for a cheap heater.

I use visi-therm stealths in my tanks too.
I love them. The only downside is there's no indicator light.
$20.00 for a 200w is a GREAT price.

isn't the indicator light the orange light the comes on when the heater is running? Or do you mean a light the stays on showing the heater is on?

Wow! I just looked at heaters a couple of days ago. I think the Marineland 200 watt was $30. Are the Marineland heaters the ones that are guaranteed for life?

I misunderstood your title.
Are you using the Deluxe or the Stealth?
The deluxe's are less expensive. I don't have experience with that model.

the box says Marineland Visi-Therm Submersible Heater. I don't know if it is a deluxe or stealth.

Stealth is all black with a red knob. BUT have no fear stealth fans! They just released a brand new model, has some very cool new features! They've now included an LED indicator light on the new stealth model as well as a light around the dial that turns green when its reached the set temp!

Marineland Stealth Pro whoever wants to check them out, and they seem fairly cheap in price too.

I was a stealth fan until recently, got some bad models from them and no indicator light. I switched to Jagers which have been perfect, but considering these new changes in the Stealth line, i'm tempted to try one out.

The deluxe is glass, I think. Like Slug said, the stealth is black plastic.

That's great to hear, I like the sound of the improvments! Thanks Matt

I use the Visi Therm Stealths as well. Highly recommend them.
Thanks Slug for the update on the new stealths.

Fishing man thanks for your review on the heater! I've moved your thread to the Misc. Reviews section of the forum. I think many members may find it helpful.

Here is a link to the Stealth Slug mentioned:

I think I'll be switching since they have the new LED lights.

The visi-therms also last a very long time. We recently had to replace 2 of them but we still have 2 visi-therms that are about 20 years old and are still working. I don't know if the quality has changed since marineland bought them. The old ones we have are from when they were their own company.

I have both the Deluxe and the Stealth. Both are great heater but the settings on both are off. One is of by four degrees the other is off by six. Check your temps using various sources to find out how accurate your temp settings are. ( I assume all heaters are like this)
That little gripe aside...I like the Deluxe as it does have the light. If the new Stealth has the light that will be my heater of choice from here on out. The black plastic is great as after you have broken a heater in the water you will know how much of a pain it is to remove the shards from the substrate!
