old coffee mugs as decor?

We have some old ceramic mugs, sugar container, creamer, etc. laying around. Could I use these instead of terra cotta pots? They do have a glaze over them.

Personally I would use them if they are glazed. There could be lots of questions about the clay or whatever they are made of...but like I said I wouldn't worry to put them in my tanks. I have in the past with no problems.

Hi gzarr

I am thinking of adding a few random old coffee mugs to my SA cichlid tank (Bolivian Rams and Angelfish) and I would love to see how your tank turned out. Did you add your set then? Could you post a picture if you did?

Thanks!

Hey, there! I ended up putting a blue stoneware looking cream holder (looked like a coffee mug) in there and my dwarf gourami loved it. It did add a splash of color but I wasn't sure if I wanted to part from it! So I ended up going outside with an ice pick and chipping rocks from the landscaping out of the snow! Haha! It was only 10 degrees and I looked totally ridiculous! I cleaned them up and made a cave-like structure instead that the fish really like and took my cream holder out as I may need it again one day.

It did look kinda neat, but in the end decided on the natural look. I'm sure yours would look great! Love to see pics!
