Cardinal nipping Betta

Hi. Thought I would ask if you think adding more plants to my 10 gl betta/Cardinal tank would slow down one of my Cardinals nipping my Betta. I might remove the one nipper anyway, he's new to the tank.

I don't think adding new plants will help. Bettas really need to have a tank to themselves. Tetras are nippy fish in general and your betta will be much more at ease if given his own 2.5-5 gallon tank

Personlly I would try adding more plants but I also don't know if this is the right thing to do. I think most people would say to remove the betta to it's own tank.

I agree, moving the betta to a heated cyled tank of it's own would be a good idea.
Along with the nipping, stress can easily bring on other issues.

I moved one of my nippy Cardinal back to LFS and 3 days later my betta fins are shredded! G'bye Cardinals. Me thinks Cory Cats.

I'm sorry about your betta. Was it just the cardinals and betta in the tank?
Many members have had good luck with corys or otos with their betta.
One of my bettas won't even tolerate a snail in her tank. lol

4 ottos 1 siamese flying fox and I don't think my apple snail is vicious. Luckily my betta is like a puppy dog, he bugs whatever fish are there when they are introduced and then leaves them alone. It wuz dem cardinals. Betta seems fine swimming along though.

I'd suggest keeping an eye on your flying fox. Mine became so aggressive as it matured that I had to return it to the LFS. If you can find true SAE's, they would be better tank mates for a betta... but IMO either SAEs or flying fox will grow too large for a 10 gallon.

I already plan to move him to my friend's algae covered 40 gallon. He's really annoying to my ottos during eating.
