if you search on google for DIY aquarium cave, you will come up with tons of results. most of which consist of taking a PVC pipe and cutting it just a little bit, then covering it with aquarium safe silicone, then covering that with dry gravel. im not sure if this is the type of cave your looking for, but they look pretty nice if done correctly.

another method i saw was made using vinyl guttering, basically you rigged them to run long ways across the back of your tank, then attach them to each other covering the entire back of your tank. you cut holes in the guttering making different channels in the gutter, after you get it all finished, you silicone smallish pieces of lava rock to it.

Okay. Yeah the dumb ass pet store "SPECIALIST" said I could use hot glue to glue my rocks I collected but of course they fell apart cause its not water proof. But Ill try this.

if you like the look of lava rock you can buy a bag of it from walmart for $4 and a tube of aquarium safe silicon for maybe $3-4.... then you can make all kinds of little features like extra holes to where small fish can go through but bigger fish can't... or make a top that is a pillar or really anything you can think of... this is what i did... still got lots of each ingredient left... thinking of making a large arch... when i get time...

oh not to mention if you want to add plants lava rock is great to attach them to...
