Can this go in a tank?

I was just thinking about something that was sitting next to my 5 gallon. Can a piece of ceramic that has been fired and cleaned go in a fish tank?

If you made the pottery piece yourself at a studio or something, and used food safe paint, those paints shouldn't have lead or other harmful substances in them because they are meant to be eaten off of.

I'm pretty sure the stuff they have is food safe because they said that you can eat off of any of the dishes you make. I was just thinking about a little piece that would spruce up one of my tanks

I have a terracotta pot in my tank and that has done just fine. i think it really depends on what it is made of, or what is the outer layer made of. If its a food safe glaze then i guess you might be able to, but when they say you can eat off it and it will be safe dosent mean it will be ok in an aquarium because it is permenatly in water and could thin the glaze and polute the water.
