Rescaped 16gallon for N. Birchardi's

I picked up some extra river rock that I bought for my 125 so I could change the 16 around...I need to get a background and then I think I'll be done with this one for now..I'll post before and afters...What do you guys think..They seem to love it. The first pic is the "before" and the second is the "after"

I like it, but I'm more of a fan of driftwood. Both the before and after pics look greta.

looks great cesch, i like it a lot! the only thing that i might do is make the rock structure a little bit taller, but i like lots of contrast when it comes to that kind of thing, mixing tall decorations with short ones, etc

I love driftwood too. If I find a neat piece that provides good caves I'm going to take the terracotta pot out and put the wood in...then I can have the best of both worlds.

I wanted it taller too...I didn't get enough rock though ...All my other pieces are huge..I'm going to have to go get more..It looked like enough until I started stacking.

It looks great I would add more rocks when you get a chance. Brichardis will claim their territories and the more caves and crevices you have the better

I appreciate your guy's input..Thank you..Sounds like a have two votes for more rock...and a piece of driftwood..I will def. be doing both. I'll go pick up some more rock tomorrow...They are still small now but I know it won't be long before they grow up and start claiming territories. So i want to have it done asap..Thanks guys. I'm going to the LFS tomorrow so I'll get a piece of driftwood there.

Hi Cesch,
I also like photo number one, because that is a fantastic piece of driftwood you have in there! Really really nice! I would try to incorporate it along with the rocks in the same tank... best of both!
Btw, after you posted about your new Birchardis, I actually found them on sale at my LFS. I didnt know enough about them, so didnt buy any. But thought they were very cool fish!
Best of luck!

Be careful with the driftwood because it can lower your pH a lot. Brichardis are from Lake Tanganyika, so they like a higher pH. They are such cool fish though. Wait until they start breeding! They breed like rabbits, lol!

Good thing you didn't buy any Kate. They are absolute terrors! They will kill everything in the tank with them except their own kind. I bought some last year and added them to my african tank without doing research. Boy did I have a job getting them out of the tank after I found out what they were like, lol.

I have two in there..I had the LFS sex them for me..She was pretty sure they were male and female but only time will tell since they are still babies....I might end up with two of the same sex and have to intervene..But for now it's going smooth no aggression at all.
Thanks for the tip about the driftwood Kate. I might just get a fake piece and go from there.

I like the after shot but both look good. If you have a sea shell or can get one of some kind your brichardi's will love it and will make a home of it if you an find one big enough.
