Gravel to Sand today!

Ok, I just arrived back at the house with 40ltrs of Golden Sand, and some new slate. Going to begin the change to sand today! I'll post some pics as I go!

I've actually found something more tedious than washing gravel-washing sand!

Golden Sand. It's from Golden Bay, which is a holiday area nearby. It already been washed, but I'm doing it again. It's quite fine grained, and a nice colour.

Ok, the sand is in, tanks half full but the water is pretty cloudy. Will the fish be ok going back in with cloudy water?

I would run the filter with floss or something of that nature for a couple of hours before putting the fish back in .

Thanks Carol. The fish are in a 30gal container, with the plants and a stocking full of the old gravel, plus a heater, so they should be ok for a while.

Yep they will be fine. When i have gravel that's making the tank a little cloudy I don't worry but with sand I'm always afraid the fish may be abraded with the swirling sand debris. Better to be safe than sorry. I can't wait to see the tank

It's nearly back together now, just turned the light on, it looks like a Saltwater set-up! I'll post some pics once the water clears a bit.
