Adding plant pot

Quick question, was thinkin of putting in a carved pot (upside down) to give the fish a new hiding place - figure I'd just grab one of those reddish-brown standard ones at the hardware store. Will that affect the water quality at all? Should I submerge it in water and let it soak beforehand? Thanks. By the way, it'll be for a 29gal tropical tank that sits in the hi 70sF. Thanks!

hello and welcome to fishlore
Do you mean the terra cotta pots? If you do, they are fine to add with no problems that I know of. I would just soak it good in clean water with no soaps. The fish I have love to swim and hide in them.

If you are buying a new one that has not been used for plants, and it is clean then a good brushing is all it needs and a quick soak rinse.
