Filter pads.

Hello!

I purchased 3 PureFlo Micron (50) Filter Pads by CoraLife 18x36. (I didn't want to run out anytime soon) I added it to my wet/dry filtration. I cut it to fit. It states on the package that it may need to be rinsed frequently and it's reusable. I have well water and no chlorine issues so I'll rinse it under tap water as I'm not counting on this pad for biological purposes. I don't count on any of this media in the blue tray for biological purposes. I change the batting material every 5 days and I rinse the course pad every 5 days too. This prevents clogging.

I placed the micron pad on the bottom of the blue tray, which is above my blue bio balls. However, since it may clog quickly I've placed my really course filter pad and a layer of batting material (I use as floss) on top of it. Maybe this will help prevent it becoming clogged too quickly.

I'll update with results in a few days. I've never used the micron pads before. I'm anxious to see if there is a difference in my water clarity. If there is a significant difference then maybe I can go longer periods before using my diatom filters (which also filter to the micron.)

Maybe I'll get a photo of the new white micron pad before and after use.

Good morning,

The Micron pad has clogged after 72 hours and the water in the filter was backing up onto the top white plate. I shut the filter off and removed all of the media in the blue tray. I rinsed the micron pad under the water hose and it looks like new again. You could see where the debris had collected perfectly around the holes in the blue tray.

I rearranged the pads placing batting material (floss) on the bottom, then the micron pad and the thick course pad on top. We'll see how well this works and see if it goes longer than 72 hours before clogging. I'd like for it to last at least 5 days before having to rinse the pad. I do water changes every 5 days in the 265g tank. Another option is to go from a micron 50 to a micron 100 pad. Maybe it won't clog as fast. I have use up the 50 first and it's going to be a while

The micron pad has really helped with the clarity of the water.

I'm going shopping at PetCo today. Hmmmm I wonder what I'll bring home today? New tank perhaps? I want another AC 70 filter to use on my 29g tank that I use to prefilter my water for water changes. I just don't think the AC 50 is enough filtration even with the tank empty of fish.

Good morning,

By rearranging the filter floss and micron pad, having the floss on the bottom and then the micro pad on top of it, it has prevented a back up onto the white plate and it's been 5 days. Yeah!!!! (I do water changes every 5 days for this tank) The flow is just now starting to be redirected because of the pad beginning to clog. I'm going to use the micron pad around the clock.

I replaced the Aqua Clear 50 (200gph) on the 29g prefiltering tank with an Aqua Clear 70
(300gph). Much better!
