Stocking Plans for 240g

Good morning! Rise and shine! It's going to be a beautiful day in the neighborhood (teehee)

I think I have decided to stay in my comfort zone (meaning I want fish I know I can keep alive and fish that will survive with the fish I have now). I'll be transferring all of the fish from my 155g and 26g into the 240g listed below:

11 Bloody Parrots
5 Silver Dollars
1 Pleco
1 Rainbow Shark
2 Cory Cats

Since I have an additional 90g's (approximately) I would like to add:

5 Red Hook Silver Dollars or Striped Silver Dollars (any combination)
3 Cory Cats

Total:
11 Bloody Parrots
10 Silver Dollars
5 Cory Cats
1 Pleco
1 Rainbow Shark
This gives me 171" of fish
8.5 gallons of water per fish
Top feeders (BR's) Middle feeders (Silver $'s) and bottom feeders(cory's, pleco, shark)
All of the life spans are just about the same as well.

If I decide to venture outside of my comfort zone I would like to forgo the additional 5 Silver Dollars and add a school of Cardinal Tetras (12 ish)

Thoughts, opinions and suggestions always welcome!
Thanks!

good morning Aquarist..
Just stopping in the forum before getting ready for work today and saw your thread. I was glad to see that you are going to add more cory cats to the new stock list. The thought of adding Cardinal Tetras to that tank scare me tho with the BRs. I just would not trust them at night, but maybe thats just my own tank issue's going on. Have you thought of Gourami's at all for your new tank?
Do you plan on keeping the 26g cycled for emergencies? If so, any thoughts on what to stock that tank with?
Have a great sun shiney day!

All I can say is that I'm happy to see that the BR's will be the centerpieces

I would definitely not recommend keeping cardinals with the parrots. They will be eaten eventually. The only thing I would add to the list is a few more cory cats. I never pay any attention to the inch per gallon thing; it has far too many shortcomings and is not applicable to most situations IMO. It especially doesn't apply to stocky cichlids like your parrots. Example: We have a 75 gallon with a parrot, JD, severum, 5 botia modesta, 1 rainbow shark, and a raphael catfish. It works out to about 60 inches of fish and I wouldn't dream of adding anything else. Although the inch per gallon rule would tell me it's ok, the tank seems on the verge of overstocked to me.

The 240 should look really sweet with 11 parrots as the centerpiece. I can't wait to see some pics!

Thanks for the tips You've helped me decide to stay in my comfort zone with the 240g like I mentioned above and forget about adding Cardinals. The Silver $'s I have now are the plain ones (although still beautiful ) I really like the Red Hook Silver $'s and I think they'll be a cool addition along with a large school of Cory Cats.

As for the 26g I'm going to keep it up and running. I hope to place it right beside the 240g in the new room. This will be my quarantine tank for the time being. (You know the 240g would look great with a 26g bow front on each side! We'll cross this bridge a little later though lol) It's too nice of a tank not to have it stocked. Once the 240g is stocked I think I'll put Cardinals and Cory's in the 26g.

I have emergency, extra bio matter in my filters now and a spare filter. If the need arises for quarantine then all I'll need is to get a container or small aquarium.

I really appreciate all the help, tips and suggestions. It's nice to be able to talk all of this out before hand.

Thanks Brian! I appreciate that.
Ken

I've gone over my stocking list. As I've mentioned the OP stocking list was for a 240g. For the 265g I'm just going to increase the Silver Dollars by one more:

11 Bloody Parrots
11 Silver dollars
5 Cory Cats
1 Pleco
1 Rainbow Shark.

Total fish 29. This list will allow each fish to have 9g's that they can call their own, so to speak. I like for my fish to have 8g's to 10g's each. This is my rule of thumb that I try to abide by for a healthy tank, with large fish. Too, should I come across a stray or two that needs to be adopted I'll have a little extra room
Thanks!
Ken
