Our New Angels

Introducing Scrat and Calsifer. Scrat is the marble angel and Calsifer is the yellow and white iridescent angel. They currently reside in a 10 gallon tank but will be moving to a 50 gallon as soon as dad gets the wall remodeled that the tank will be going on. He promises by Christmas.
Anyway, here are some pictures taken with my cell phone of them and the tank. We are feeding them Aqueon Color Enhancing Tropical Flakes.

Stats on my water:
11/13/09

nitrate: 40
nitrite: 3.0
hardness: 300
alkalinity: 300
pH: 8.4
ammonia: 0
Temp: 80 degrees

I do realize the hardness, alkalinity and ph levels are high. Unfortunately I didn't get to fully cycle the tank as Dad was wanting to put some pretties in right away. We just have to make do and hope the boys survive.

How beautiful! I have always loved angelfish and, alas, always been unable to keep them alive.

Good luck with them!

They're beautiful...but you really should have waited until the tank was fully cycled. Angels are very sensitive & are not even recommended until tanks are aged. Also be sure to keep with water changes to prevent stunting their growth from being in a small tank.

The fish and tank is really nice.
But, do some Water changes ASAP to lower Nitrate and specially Nitrite.

If they get stressed and arent eating well, dont force feed them. They'll eat when they are comfortable and you dont want uneaten food around....

They're beautiful fish!

I'm glad you're aware of the dangers of the params; sometimes parents just don't listen to what's best.

Yup - very pretty angels!

They are beautiful! Congratz!

Angelfish are senstivie to water quality, just keep an eye on them for any signs of finrot...due to the uncycled tank. Speaking from experience. I hope it all goes well.

I am no longer in charge of the tank. I have been demoted to "cleaner of the tank" and so I had no choice about the "when" on the fish. The Male in Charge Around Here buys fish and I just do my best to make sure they live. i did get some Water Safe Complete Water Conditioner Plus Beneficial Bacteria Tank Buddies and Correct pH for Community Tanks 7.0 Tank Buddies (both from Jungle) last night.
The new readings as for 7am this morning are
Ammonia: 3.0 (say what?)
Nitrate: 20
Nitrite: 3.0
Hardness 75 (that's good yay!)
Alkalinity: 300 (not sure how to fix this one)
pH: 7.2

Also The Male In Charge Around Here added 3 fantail guppies and a Chinese algae eater to the tank last night. My best efforts at fixing what's wrong with this whole setup are being sabotaged so please keep our new buddies in your prayers that they make it through this alright.

Anyway, Scrat has started chasing Calsifer around the tank. I don't know if this is because they are both males or if its Scrat being bored.
The fantail guppies are all male and are schooling just fine it seems. Occasionally they separate and explore the tank on their own but then they meet up in the middle and hang out at the top by one of the sword plants. Their names are Fanny (Short for Fantail and yes I know its not a great name for a guy fish but I am not in charge of naming either), Zoom (he is quite the speed demon), and Sirius (for the Dog star). The Chinese algae eater has been named Akuma (Japanese for Demon) as he zips around like he's lost his mind (was doing it at Petco too not just in our tank).

Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions for getting this tank fixed VERY quickly please let me know. In the meantime everyone seems to be eating just fine, swimming and playing well also. Am keeping an eye out for icky problems and so far all seems well.

daily water changes to reduce ammonia and nitrate.
can you get some filter media from an established tank that would help with the cycle
I would recommend against using chemicals to adjust the ph most fish will adapt to it as long as it is stable the chemicals and cause an unsafe swing in the ph
