How to soften the water?

I am planning to keep angels in my aqurium. After searching a lot i found that angels prefer soft and acidic water. i want to know how can i get this enviornment?

well there are chemicals you can buy that aren't all that expensive,(examples,"pH down" and "water pillows"-water softener) also adding driftwood can soften your water although i do not know how well driftwood softens the water, as for a more natural way to lower ph im not sure i hope i helped at least a little.

the chemicals can cause the ph to swing to at a time if you are not careful
driftwood will bring it down some as it releases tannins another thing you could use is some peat moss

welcome to fishlore!!!
I wouldnt use ANY chemicals to alter the ph...its temporary and acts way too fast and could cause death from ph shock..you can use driftwood with tannis in it or get some peat moss and add it to your filter whats your ph now? most fish will acclimate to all varieties of ph as long as they are stable and dont jump around allot

I agree with shawnie. I have two angles and have had them for about 6 months. They are really hardy fish. I have them in a tank with a PH of about 7.6-8.0. I have to agree with the preivous posts and say to not use the chemicals, just aclimate your fish well and they should be great.

How big of a tank are you putting them in?

Hello SDSHarma. Here is a link you may find helpful. I agree on not using chemicals to adjust your pH. Too risky!

Welcome to Fishlore!

Definitely, don't use chemicals to alter your PH. IMO, they do more harm than good.

Driftwood is a great natural PH "decreaser". Good luck and please keep us posted!

Thanks for such very useful information

Thanks to all of you for this very useful information. The link for article is really very informative. I have kept 8 small and 2 big angels in my community tank whose detail is as follows:
Size: 72"x12"x18"
Fish: 10 angels, 5 dollars, 2 plecos, 2 tiger sharks and one dwarf stripped catfish.
Decor: artificial plants, real big pebbles, white and brown gravel as substrate.
Filtration: UG filtration with powerhead on it for internal and canister filter for external filtration
Heating: 300 watt ehim fully submercible heater with 45 degree angle and set for 25 degree celcius temprature.

For breeding I am setting another tank with dimentions: 24"x12"x18".
I am very much confused about peat and peat moss. will you explain what exactly peat is? and from where I can get it. I am uploading my tanks pictures. These are taken before putting angels in it. Soon I will upload the fresh pictures with my angels and also provide my tanks video link for youtube.

Thanks once again for your valuable co-operation.
