Has anyone had silver dollars and Angel fish together.

Hey, I have a 35 gallon tall tank. There aren't too many fish in there now, but I was wondering if anyone has had experience with these two fish in a tank and how they treat eachother.

Hello Tropical Aquarist! The only problem I see that could arise is if you have a pair of Angels to pair off and spawn. Angels are cichlids and will be very aggressive guarding their eggs and fry. Silver Dollars are generally a very peaceful species, schoolers, and don't bother anyone (with the exception of very small fish like neons that may or may not be eaten). I had Angels and Silver Dollars together in a 55g tank years ago and had no problems. However, in a tall tank compared to a long tank may involve more aggression issues as Silver Dollars really need more room to swim.
Best of luck!

Thanks a bunch. Yeah the tank wouldn't be overstocked and I was thinking that I would probably not let them get too big either.

Welcome to Fishlore!
Your tank might be overstocked being how silver dollars get pretty big. You can stunt their growth but it is painful and irreversable. You might want to keep this in mind when deciding to put silvers in a 35 gallon tank.

I keep those two together but in a large tank (145gal, six footer). I wouldn't let them in a small tank. However I managed to raise 9 juveniles (Silver Dollars) with sub-adult Angelfish in a 30gal wide tank. It went OK for a couple of months until... the Angelfish paired-off. They turned nasty big time with the SDs. Those are the ones that now share peacefully a large enough tank to keep them happy.

Fish that I keep in tall tank with paired-off Angelfish (over a year now with no problems) are schools of Corydoras (Panda, Imitator), Kuhli Loaches and a male betta. I kept there a school of Harlequin Rasboras but the Angelfish terrorized them so I moved them to a Community tank.

Hello,

I have them in a 55 gallon, no problems. I wouldn't put Silver Dollars in a 35 gallon tall, that's not enough room. They are skiddish and bump into the tank walls or decor.
