Angle Fish Strange Behaviour!!!

Hello all

Im new to keeping angle fish ive had my 4ft tank now and ive had 4 angles since they were 2.5 inches big they are now 4 to 5 inches. ive been keeping them in a well planted tank with sword plants and there is pleanty of space for them to swim around. They have 1 pleco and 4 corys and 10 bleeding heart teatras to keep them company which they leave a lone the pH level is just sitting above 6.5 and the temp is at 30 c. i do a 20% water change every week on the same day which i think is right not to sure? But just recently over the last two weeks my angles seem to fighting each other very aggresivley i have 2 blue grey angles 1 black white and orange angle and 1 humbug like angle. My 2 bg angles were stiking to gether and attacking the others for the first week but now the humbug and one of the bg are together at one end of the tank and shooing away the others? The bizzare thing has been happening over the last two days to date the bg angle which is the smaller out of the two bg angles keeps going between the humbug angle and the other bg angle like a dateing contest. The bigger bg angle and the humbug angle always attackk each other no matter what but stay at either end of the tank please help me!!!!!! (any suggestions)?

Welcome to Fishlore!
It sounds like they may be pairing off to mate. Is there any way you can post pics of them? Some members may be able to sex them for you.

welcome to fishlore!!
I agree with amanda..they are maturing to pair off and they will get pretty mean to the others ...if you 2 different pair, it will be worse ........do you know the exact measurements of your tank to get a total size? I bet with the tetras and planted, its a great looking tank..can you share pics sometime?

Welcome to Fishlore!

amanda hit the nail on the head, it sounds like your angels are pairing off
We have several members who have a good eye for sexing angels (ehem carol and shawnie ) so a pic would help them guide you

Also, you have to watch which angels spend their time together, as that is the pair. A full breeding pair could harm or even severely injure the others, so once you notice which one is the pair, take the others back to the LFS asap.

I had the same problem, but I was unsucceful with breeding them, but you have a much higher chance of a pair due to the amount of Angelfish you have and the amount of time you have had them. Angels can get very aggressive during breeding time, and they may hurt your Tetras and other fish you have in there. They are one of the most aggressive cichlids when it comes to breeding. Good luck, hopefully have a pair! It's really neat to see them lay their eggs in perfect columns! Please keep us updated!

Im guessing you have a breeding pair then. If they are showing their ventrical tubes (spelling) then I'm pretty sure you're gonna have some fry. Unless you don't want any since once they are paired you wont be able to stop them for breeding. The practically breed like bunnies.

They are definitely spawining, specially if they clean off leaves or a surface. But it's pretty much impossible to tell their sexes from your pics or just by a description of their behaviour... if you post a picture showing their breeding tubes it would be easier.

Males have a breeding tube that looks like the tip of a 0.5 mm mechanical pencil; the Females' looks like the tip of a regular wooden #2 pencil.

good luck!
