angel behaviours

Hi!!! I set up my tank about 5 months ago. I got my 2 angels when they were only tiny. Now that they are alot bigger, they seem to fight alot. Previousely one was constantly picking on the other one, and this lasted for about a month. Now the roles have reversed and the original bully is now getting bullied. Is this something that i should worry about? It is a community tank, and i was considering breeding, but the introduction of another angel fish is not something i want to do if they are just going to fight. Is this just normal behaviour? They dont pick on the other fish, just themselves. How can i tell if they are both just 2 teritorial males? I really hope someone can help! thanks very much for taking the time to read this.

Hi Kalii, Welome to Fishlore Are the Angels actually hurting each other? Or is it just bickering? My Angels fight a lot of the time, but never actually do each other any damage. Angelfish are Cichlids, and this can just be typical Cichlid behavior.

Hi Welcome to FishLore
Angels are gorgeous fish!
I don't know that much about them but it sounds like as they're maturing they're sparing for dominance. I'm not sure about their mating behavior, but this could be a possibility also.
I'm sorry, but imo, your tank isn't big enough for 2 angels.
I know you didn't ask, but your clown loachs will also get very big and need a larger tank.

Other members know more about them, so lets see what they have to say.

Edit: Thanks for the info Nick. I wasn't positive.

Hi kalii and WELCOME TO FISHLORE!

Clown loaches get very huge in a very short time, then they slowly grow. IMO, you should have your loaches in their own tank. I agree with everyone above. Though, it's not recommended to add another angelfish if you already have a pair because they'd be best in pairs. I hope it's nothing serious, just a cichlid behavior. Keep us updated yeah?

Best of luck and glad to have you on board with us here on FL.

Welcome to FishLore!
80 litres = 20g that's just barely big enough for two medium sized angels and a bristlenose.
Angels when crowded are more likely to quarrel, if their pairing up that just adds into the mix.
Clown Loaches are marvelous fish. With the proper housing they show such intelligence that it's amazing. Unfortunately they are heavy waste producers and grow really fast the first year. They do slow down and grow slowly after that. Here some information on them. http://www.loaches.com/species-index...a-macracanthus
Corydoras really need to be in groups but I wouldn't encourage adding any more, it would over crown your tank.
We don't want to be discouraging but we want your fish to be happy and you to love your new hobby.

Hello Kalii and Welcome to Fish Lore. Some great information in the posts above. I've added a link concerning the Angel Fish profile that you may find very helpful if you haven't already seen it. You can also go to the top right hand side of this screen and do a "search" for "Angel Fish" for even more information. Too, if you can post some photos of your fish, some of our members may be able to sex them for you. Best of luck and I hope you enjoy the site.

excellent news!

WEll now im really stumped. Thanks so much for getting back to me so quick. I underestimated my tank size. I have an aqua one T60 which i think is more like 130L. I took advice from the aquarium shop as to what to put in, and the fish i have are his suggestions. Is it still to small? Also, how bizzare, i looked in my fish tank just now, and low and behold, i have one of my angels fanning her eggs! such a proud moment in aunty Kali's life. Now, does anyone have any suggestions on what i should do? Is there something i can get that divides my fishtank to keep the other fish away from them? How do i know if they are fertilized? Thanks for your help guys, and now i know why they have been acting so wierd!

welcome kalii!! great advice from everyone!
fish stores are out to make money so t hey dont really give such great advice unless its to make a sale you cannot divide a 20g tank with the fish you have in there..theres not enough room...can you get another tank asap? the angels could kill or stress your other fish with no room for them to stay away from their eggs...eggs will be fertile if they are tan in color..unfertilized will be white eggs... the tank still needs to be cycled tho as others have said or all the fish will die from ammonia.....I hope you get things figured out!
