How many Angels

I really like the Angels. How many should I keep? I bought two but am afraid of having two males or two females. Should I get more and then try and figure out the sex thing?

sexing them is tough until they are older....and what size tank do you have them in? what else is in with them? if you update your aquarium information under my settings, it would help allot

I thought it was bigger but tank size seems to be 39 gallon if i figured it correctly. A tALL tank. My wife has some junk goldfish in there that I used to start the tank. I hate the goldfish but love the angels!

aww poor goldie...we love all fish here so we dont think hes "junk"
if the tank is cycled, you could hav 2 angels in there and buying them as juvies, may or may not work depending on their moods..they are cichlids and they are unpredictable.....and I hate to say it , but goldies are cold water fish and angels are tropicals..so they cant be mixed..but please dont do something drastic with the poor goldie..give him back to the pet store or find him a proper home if you go with angels....

I,ve looked at the temperature ranges and it seems to me that they could both survive. Is there some other factor that I am not seeing? Will 25 degrees not accommodate both goldfish and tropicals?
I.m sorry, I.m new to this.

goldies need the natural temps ...no heaters help them acclimate to different seasons....the warmer temps over 76 will lesson their life span ...angels prefer 78-81 as as the cooler temps will stress them and could cause ICH..tropicals and goldies in the same tank, means someones not going to be happy

Good morning Manfred and Welcome to Fish Lore. Very good advice from Shawnie. Angels with goldfish wouldn't make a very happy home 39 gallon tall sounds great for the Angels. If you buy more than two be prepared to rehouse some of them once you have a breeding pair. They are "very" territorial to say the least at spawning time.
Best of luck and hope you can share some photos with us sometime.

Manfred, you'll have to get rid of your goldfishes it really wont matter if your temperature is at 25șC goldfishes produce toxins that are harmful to tropical fishes. Which means goldfishes can ONLY be with other goldfishes. Angels are delicate fishes and do require warm water with other angels and small schooling community fishes.

Angelfishes are cichlids, and if you keep them with other cichlids you will need to have either a lot of live plants (fake plants aren't good for angelfish fins) and/or rocks to form a small shelter and the only type of cichlids I know that are capable to stay with angelfishes are ram cichlids and maybe severums. Although severums are just as aggressive as angels when both angels and severums are fully grown.

You can keep Angelfishes with swift swimming fishes such as Danios. Danios are fast so they can stay in with many fishes. Since not all fishes are as fast as Danios. The only fish that is as fast as Danios are the Buenos Aires Tetras

Good luck!
