Interested in starting an Angel tank?

Hey all. I have been thinking about starting and Angle tank (some tall hex or bowfront) and am unsure of how to proceed. Must angles be kept in pairs? I know they choose mates and then become territorial but what if you keep all of the same gender. How would that work?

if the tank has appropriate size and room for them, you can have all the same sex...as juvies they grow up together and do better but every fish is different

it is almost impossible to tell their genders exept for when they are breeding. I would get 4. Because you get 2 pairs which they will have territorys or you get 1 pair and the aggression speads to both angels but you might have to end up setting up a divider. If you kept all 1 gender then i think that would work pertty well.

So if I got 4 and only 2 paired up then the other 2 would perish?

if you had them in a smaller tank then that would probably happen

smaller as in a 20 or 30 gallon but they would get picked on but that is what tank dividers are for

I would get six juveniles and let them grow up together. I had two pairs in a 4 foot tank that got along fine. I would say that if you went with something like a 55 gallon, you could keep 2 pairs. Otherwise, I would do 1 pair. You could also add some rams or apistos to the tank I think that praecox rainbowfish are great to put in with them as well Angels love live plants, and will spawn on the leaves of sword plants. Good luck with your tank!

I dont believe they are hard to sex unless they are babies....and i also believe if you spend the time watching the tank you buy them from, you can find the buddies in the tank that will get along...but that takes watching them for a good 30 mins or so and watch who swims together ...

I agree Shawnie I did this with my marbles and my wild silvers, and they both ended up pairing.
