Ok i am sooooo excited all of what to do just left my brain so I need some help. Cleo nad gizmo finally got it right and I now have a whole lotta eggs in the tank. Gizmo decided to fertilize instead of having cavier.. What do I need to do now?? I want to try to let the parents raise the eggs so don't know what to do.. am nervious don't want to do something wrong either. So far neither one of the parents has eaten the eaggs. they are standing guard against the snails. No other fish are in the tank. What do I do guys?? please help me. Do I change water? or leave it?? do I add anything to the water like that blue stuff people talk about?? oh god this is what I wanted to happen and now am having total brain fart. I hope they survive cause the parents are my leopard and marble fish. they are going to be sooo cute.... Any help here would be awesome.
I got no eggs... most didn't get fertilized and what did the snails attacked last night. I really hate snails.... I guess we will need to put a couple loaches in there to clean house before the next batch of eggs arrive... this sucks..

Well ... don't worry, you eventually WILL have the babies, it's just a matter of time My angels at first ate the eggs, then when the eggs were left, most of them were not fertilized successfully and turned white, and then ... voila (!!!) ... they made it It takes time and it WILL eventually happen. All you need is a mated pair I suggest that next time the angels are completely alone in that tank, no algae eaters or snails - it's safer this way. And as Carol has said, just keep the water clean and watch the parents raise their own if they will want to raise them. I personally had to remove the eggs and raise them myself - so I had to be doing 50% daily water changes for the first 2 months of their lives. It was a lot of work, but it was SO WORTH it
Going to work on de-snailing the tank. Also got a piece of slate rock for them to use ( hopefully) also got a sponge for the filter so no babies get sucked in. I hope this will help. Will let you know what happens..
Well that batch of eggs went down the drain. all turned white. Not even 2 weeks later they did it again and laid more eggs but alas all turned white. Could Gizmo be unfertile this is like the 4th batch of eggs now that have either been eaten or not fertilized??
If he is infertile, can I safely try to rematck Cleo with another angel
I really doubt he is infertile. I think you need patience, that is all Besides, maybe water conditions are not good enough for the eggs to survive? Though this is probably not the case either. If you want to breed angels, it's best to have a temperature of 79 - 80F, very clean water (0 nitrate, if possible), and a very good diet (i.e. variety of flakes, bloodworms, and brine shrimp). The pH should be around neutral, if not slightly acidic. BUT, they will probably breed even in slightly alkaline pH since they're commercially-bred angelfish, not angels collected from nature and imported to fish stores.
Thanks for the info Carol, we will find out soon they just layed more eggs. Gizmo is the older of the 2 fish. I have had him over i year now. Cleo is less then I year old. Gizmo has a small pin like breeding tube unlike cleos larger one. They are incredibly good at protecting the eggs so I think he just doesn't have the hang of it yet. The water Is good no ammonia or nitates. We will see what happens this time. :
i would like to get some angles soon and try to breed them. how do u tell male from female?mayb u can give me lots of info .
hope the lil ones live and hatch. common cleo u can do it and gizmo 2

welp, no luck again all the eggs are gone. He better get it right soon or I am going to wring his lil neck...!!! :P Will have to wait and see what happens next time. this is so frustrating being patient.. I want Babies!!!!!! Just like a man to screw things up..hahaha

You cannot tell which one is which until they begin breeding. When they breed, a female has a rounded breeding tube under her belly, and a male has a pointed breeding tube under his belly.
They are actually doing good as parents so far. They keep the eggs clean and fan them. They also attack anything that comes close to the eggs. The eggs stay long enough to get white them disapear. I will try to get a pic of my females breeding tube so people can see what it looks like posted on here. Will keep you all updated on our slow progress.
Ok well over half of the eggs are gone already don't know what did it this time. But atleast I know that gizmo does follow behind and "try " to ffertilize the eggs. If he has anything coming out is the next problem. I am debating removing the last few eggs to another tank to see if they can atleast make it to wigglers or not. What do you think Should I remove them from the tank now or just wait for the next batch and see what happens
Carol I will try to get a pic of my angels breeding tubes so people can see what they are looking for. I know it took me a couple times and a post of a pic on here to figure it out. I have the one of cleos tube but will try to get a better one and one of gizmos.

Hi everyone, I have a zoo going here. hehehe.. I just wanted to update you all on my progress here. I currently have 2 baby angels that just hit the free swimming age. they are so cute.. How many times a day do I have to feed them again I can't find the post where that was at?? My boyfriend also brought me another 29 gallon tank. oh boy now I am thinking of trying some cichlids in there for something new and different. I just can't decide on which to get or what to put together. Any suggestions would be great. Other wise all other fish are doing great. Cleo and gizmo have slowed on the laying eggs for some reason and took over a month to lay a new batch. Cleo then started eating them before she was done and I quickly snagged what was left and now have my 2 lonely babies to see if I can get them to live.. I hope everyone is doing well.. Will keep checking in when I get the chance to..... still potty training the puppy.. frustrating but we are atleast heading in the right direction. yeah!!!..
See? Told ya - just a matter of time I'm very happy for you, they must be so cute It reminds me of my baby Angels. I definitely want to raise some angels again sometime! As for feeding: you feed them a few times a day (4 - 5 times). Or at least I was feeding mine 4 - 5 times a day, then it became 3 - 4, and then only 3 times as they continued to grow. When they've just begun their free-swimming stage, it's best to feed them at least 4 times a day to make sure they get enough food. I was also doing 50% daily water changes in my fry tank for the first 2 months of their lives. Then I slowly started reducing the water changes to 3 - 4 times a week, then to 3 - 2 times a week ... and so on.
Went to take a pic and I can't find the little bugger. HAs been MIA now for 2 days.. Darn it he was so cute.. Well made it farther than last time so maybe next time. Will snap a pic as soon as I get free swiming. Sorry Guys..
they certainly sound challenging!!! i'm sure you'll get there in the end!! its that old patience thing again!! keeps cropping up in this world of fishkeeping!
