Feeding...

Hey Everyone, I just got my first angelfish and I have a few question. Do I need to buy cichlid food for my angelfish or will the flakes that I am feeding my dwarf gourami work? If I do use cichlid flakes will that hurt my gourami? Thanks.

Hello Wolf. You can feed all of your fish a variety of foods from flakes to pellets, veggies and live food. Your Gourami will not suffer just because he may eat some cichlid flakes. A variety of food is best. Feeding flake/dry food all the time could cause constipation.

Hope you can share some pictures of your Angel sometime soon.

Have fun and keep us posted.

Thanks Ken! So do I need to get special "cichlid" food for him? I have some cichlid pellets and I guess those will work with the combo of the aqueon flakes that I use now? Thanks once again!

angels and gourami's love frozen brine shrimp, bloodworms, and occasional beefheart cubes..all thawed in tank water...as well as a good cichild flake ..a varied diet is best as ken suggested..but the live foods are a must as well, IMO, to keep them healthy and happy

you do not have to use cichlid pellets/flakes for angelfish. they aren't the most picky fish when it comes to food. they will accept flakes of all kinds and angels love their frozen foods such as brine shrimp and beef heart. they also like live foods, such as small shrimp or fry. guppy and molly fry are a good food source for angel, the angels love hunting down these little guys, but it is your choice whether or whether not to feed baby fish.

good luck
