| A big no-no? As a few may be aware, my new fifteen gallon tank, it's 18 inches tall, 18 inches wide and about 13 inches deep, it's about 15 UK gallons or 17 (ish) US gallons.
It's a super tall tank, with lots of turning room.
My next door neighbour used to have one angelfish in the tank (She's giving it to me) many a year ago, it was about ten years old when it died, and had lived in there happily.
Would it be feasible to keep one in it again? I don't mind if I can't, but I adore them lol!
I don't know if I'd keep anything with it if I can't, however if I buy it as a juvie, would it be less inclined to think if it's tankmates as a snack?
I don't mind if I can't have one as I said, but they are awsome fish, and I'd like to know my options?
Thanks a lot! |

| Angel fish do like tall tanks compared to long ones. Seems they feel more secure. I don't see why you couldn't have an angel or maybe even a pair as long as they are male and female. Someone else will have to help you with sexing them though.
Keep us posted ABC and send some pictures when you can
Maybe a small school of Cory's ? |

| I was about to suggest the same thing! I think an Angel and a few Corys would be fine in a tank that size. |

| Okay, I went to the LFS, and fell in love with a gorgeous platinum one. I'd love a pair, and I had a go at sexing them. Hopefull they might akready be paired up, so I can monitor them for about five minutes to see who's with who, and then chose them |

| I've kept very large angels in the past and I don't think that tank would be appropriate for any angels at adult size. True, they prefer tall tanks, but they also need horizontal room to swim. I wouldn't personally keep an adult in anything smaller than a 29 gallon, and I eventually upgraded mine to a 45 gallon (the last one I had was huge, about 6 inches total length and about the same in height). Anyway, that's just my opinion and I'm sure others have been successful keeping them in smaller tanks, it's just not something I'd do. |

I don't have mine in anything smaller than a 29 and I only have two small ones in there. They do love the taller tanks and I have two in a tall hex and they seem to love it. But not only do they enjoy the entire water column they like to swim around too. I would rather that they had too much room than not enough. Good luck with whatever you decide. |

He has three pairs (I think...) And always said he'd take any.
I think my next door neighbours grew without a problem, I'll have to ask her how she kept her Angel, what tank mates etc.
Also, the LFS also sells 'smaller' angels, I think they're just the smallest angels bred with the smallest angels, so you eventually end up with quite small angels, compared to ones that just breed no matter what. I think my friend bought his from there, his are five years old and are only about 6 inches in height, and they're in a 150 Gal. I'll guess I'll just have to see what I'm feeling like when the tank finally gets a good scrub and clean, and is fully cycled.
I was pretty horrified at the LFS when I went in there today. They had lovely albino cories, however were all blue by their tails. I don't know if it's meant to be like that, bu it sure does look like the poor things were dyed
Thanks for the info |

| The LFS is selling juveniles. Most do. They have the potential to grow that large, but if they are stunted in a small tank then they won't reach their potential. |

| thats a shame, ABCD, when you have your heart set on a certain fish But the angles I have seen do get quite large and really it would be sad to see them in such a small tank. But this is weird, at my LFS, I have seen what they are calling 'dwarf angels'. Is this a true breed of dwarf angels? Anyone.. Just mentioning it for the sake of a small tank.. |

I think they've just selectively bred them to have the end result's smaller than average, I mean, I'd love them, especially as my friend has them from the same shop, and are still teeny tiny, I'm still toying with the idea of just one. But I don't want the poor thing to suffer it is does grow massive. My friend has always said he'll have them, but, argg I hate descisions. |

| Most LFSs don't breed fish at all. They get them from suppliers.
The only dwarf angels I've ever heard of are marine angels, and occur naturally. |

The only dwarf angels I've ever heard of are marine angels, and occur naturally. | Ive decided to give up on angels, I was advised that I could get some Bolivian Rams (May have been German) for it, by yourself I do believe, and thought, naah, I'll never get them here.
But now I can, only for a limited time though, so, the tanks coming in tomorrow so I can clean it, and when I get my electrics sorted, it'll be all set up. I know they can't be added to a freshly cycled tank, so I may ask the LPS to order them in specially. They're ordering some bettas in for me especially
Thank you so much for your help, and I just realised how stubborn I was being! Last edited by ABCDemily; June 22nd, 2009 at 08:41 AM.
