Angelfish Compatibility

I'm a little confused and I want to make sure I don't set up an incompatible tank.

Are Angelfish and black phantom tetras compatible in a 29 gallon aquarium?

I know that black skirt tetras are nippers, so are the black phantom tetras nippers as well?

Thanks

Im not familiar with phantoms but I do have 4 black skirts with a pair of angels in a 30 gal... but my angels have been there for years and the black skirts are only 4 months or so there..havent had any issues tho...but each fish has their own issues so backup plans are always a must

Could you please provide me your advice on my backup plan?

I'm going to try to keep this from being confusing, but I have two 29 gallon aquariums. In the other 29 gallon, I'll have pristella tetras. If there are any issues, could I put the pristella tetras in the 29 with the angelfish and move the black phantoms into the 29 with the gourami or keyhole cichlid?

Is this a safe backup plan? Let me know if you need further information to answer this. Like I said, I'm trying to keep the confusion level to a minimum.

Thank you

why not get the one 29 up with your tetra's and angels as you want them...I wouldnt get any other tetra's for a month or so , until you figure if the ones with the angels work out..if they dont, you can put them in the other 29 and build from there...I have a DG in with my tetras ...ive never had keyholes so you would have to check up on them

backup plans= extra tank for fish that might not get along...so build slowly in case you have to move fish around

That's a good idea! I was going to move slowly anyways (the angelfish about a month from now, I may bump that up to two weeks so I can verify everyone will get along) because I was going to increase the tetra schools first, 2-3 fish a week to make sure I don't get ammonia or nitrite spikes. I'll increase my black phantom school from 3-6 this weekend (as long as water parameters continue to permit) so they'll be happier and hopefully less likely to be nippy and if everything goes correctly, I'll add the angels after that.

Thanks Shawnie

The black phantoms should work just fine with an angel. They are peaceful and a lot different than black skirts.

Yeah, Angelfishes and Black Phantom Tetras or Phantom Tetras can go well with each other. Just as long as the phantoms are introduced into the aquarium first and then you can get many other tetras and then lastly, you can get the Angelfishes. Mainly because angelfishes claim their territory quickly when they are firstly introduced into the tank and if you put in other fishes later on there is a possibility that the angelfishes will attack the new fishes.

Also, if you have a densely planted tank then your having a better chance of the new fishes living with the angels. I've got a ton of water sprites that have spread all from just one plant, and new ones have been floating and that provides excellent cover for my fishes and new fishes that have been introduced into my 29 gallon tank. Just don't put in Neon tetras, or Cardinal tetras because they are small and they don't grow as big as the angels, and the angelfishes can eat the cardinals and neons.

Good luck!
