Angel Fish

I have just recently purchased a second tank for breeding Angel Fish, for the past 2 weeks i have had 4 small, approx 6 month old Angelfish in the tank. today i introduced 2 more, small and approx 8 months old.

The original Angel Fish over the past few hours have been attacking the two new Angelfish. Is this common? And does it stop after a period of time? I would hate for the two new Angelfish to be torn apart by the other 4 whom have been together for a few weeks now.

Thanks?..

welcome to fishlore damien!

In a 20 gal tank, even as juvies, they probably are going to kill the new ones...im surprised the other 4 havent started being meanies to one another....id remove the 2 new ones and keep a very close eye on the other 4...they start pairing up anywhere from 8-10 months..

I've always heard that if you're going to have angels in a tank they should be purchased at the same time simply because of the situation that you're in. Great advice from Shawnie

Yep gotta agree The first ones have already claimed "their" tank. When they pair the twenty will be big enough for one pair. I have a pair right now with two day old fry who chased and harassed the other two angels in a 55g.
They layed their eggs on a plant smack dab in the middle of the tank and woe was anybody who came close. I temporarily removed the other angels and they are fine now, just them and their babies.

I think that the angels that have been first put into the tank are already having the tank all to themselves, and I guess they aren't ready for new arrivals. So if you have an extra tank, I would use it as a recovery station because the two new angels will probably be injured and they may want to have some more time to regenerate their injured scales and fins.
